To close the Masterworks season in dramatic fashion, the FMSO joins forces with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera for this special co-production.
From the genius behind La Bohème, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly comes Puccini’s gripping one-act masterpiece of passion and betrayal. Set aboard a barge on the dark waters of the Seine, Il Tabarro (The Cloak) simmers with jealousy, longing, and fatal secrets. Its brooding atmosphere and sweeping score deliver a raw, emotional punch in this rarely performed gem.

In this reimagined presentation of The Four Seasons, movements by Vivaldi and Piazzolla are woven together, creating a musical dialogue between Baroque Italy and 20th‑century Buenos Aires. Performed by the FMSO’s string section and featuring concertmaster Sonja Bosca‑Harasim as soloist, this all‑strings Masterworks concert pairs one of classical music’s most beloved works with a fresh, imaginative perspective—appealing to both longtime audiences and first‑time Masterworks listeners.
This recital features two major works of chamber music: Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet Op. 115 and Mendelssohn’s Octet Op. 20. The program brings together the Third Avenue String Quartet, clarinet, and additional string players for a rich, expressive afternoon of music.
Conducted by Jane Linde Capistran and hosted by fan-favorite Jordan Schroeer, the concert features the powerful voices of the FM Choral Artists alongside the orchestra in a tribute to Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated soundtracks. Audiences will be swept away by thrilling themes from Mission: Impossible, Titanic, Star Wars, Stardust, Caravan, & more.

Step back in time for An Evening in the Victorian Era. Enjoy an intimate evening of chamber music performed by Jenny Poehls (flute), Deb Harris (flute), Elise Buffat Nelson (cello), and Amy Mercer (piano).
Guests will experience elegant Victorian Era music which will highlight female composers of the time, in the warm and character-filled setting of the Fine Arts Club. You are welcome to dress in period costume or come as you are.
Your ticket includes hors d’oeuvres and two beverages. This event is 21+, and limited tickets are available.
A celebration of musical power and collaboration, Symphonic Giants brings together iconic works and rising talent in this program. The concert opens with selections from Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances in a side-by-side performance with the Fargo-Moorhead Area Youth Symphony.
Pianist Tyler Wottrich, Associate Professor of Piano at NDSU, takes the spotlight in Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2, an expressive masterpiece known for its dramatic flair and virtuosic fire.
The program concludes with Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, an emotionally rich work that stands as one of the towering achievements of the symphonic repertoire.
Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 2 in D major will be brought to life by Deb Harris, FMSO’s principal flutist, whose expressive tone and command of the instrument reveal the concerto’s elegance.
The program also offers a rare treat as Music Director, Christopher Zimmerman, steps away from the conductor’s podium to perform at the piano in Ernest Bloch’s Concerto Grosso for Strings and Piano, a richly textured work blending Baroque tradition with modern harmony.
Also featured are Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale, a lively and theatrical piece full of storytelling, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 83, “La Poule”, known for its playful motif.

Step into the historic Fargo Theatre and join the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra as we present the 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera, brought to life with a powerful live orchestral performance conducted by Jane Linde Capistran.
Experience the thrill of classic cinema paired with all your favorite dramatic and ghostly orchestral themes, performed live in the theatre pit. Concordia College Film Professor, Greg Carlson, will set the stage with a special introduction to the film’s legacy, and an organ soloist will add a layer to the night’s soundscape.
This blend of film, music, and history marks the first of its kind for the FMSO. Come get swept away in the suspense and spectacle of The Phantom of the Opera!
This program features the world premiere of Noir Concerto No. 1, a saxophone concerto by Fargo-born composer Adam Hochstatter, featuring Russ Peterson, saxophone.
Peterson also brings his own voice to the stage with Between Two Cultures, a genre-blending composition reflecting his dual roots in classical and jazz traditions.
To round off the program, the orchestra performs Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World” inspired by Dvořák’s time in America and cultural diversity.
