2019 Thoreson Steffes Young Artists Solo Competition was held Saturday, January 5 at North Dakota State University in Fargo..
This competition is open to senior high instrumentalists (students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades) including pianists. This year's event was Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Reineke Fine Arts Center at NDSU.
The 2019 winners were (pictured above) flutist Eric Bergeman (2nd place), cellist Aiden Krogh (1st place) and violinist Philip Dowdell (3rd place). Aiden Krogh will perform as soloist with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra in the April Young People’s Concerts.

Contestants should select a piece from the approved repertoire list linked here. Any requests for substitutions to the repertory must be approved by the FMSO Executive Director, Linda Boyd no later than November 1, 2019, by calling 701-478-3676. Please note, your performance of this same musical selection may accompany your application to Classical Minnesota Public Radio’s Minnesota Varsity program.
