Jane Linde Capistran, Conductor
Inspired by last season's FMSO guest conductor Zenaida Romeu, director of the famied all-female Cuban chamber ensemble "Camerata Romeu," FMSO Associate Conductor Jane Linde Capistran decided to assemble an all-female chamber orchestra of her own to open the 2010-11 Chamber Music Series. Enjoy an appealing variety of musical styles, from J.S. Bach's beloved Brandenberg Concerto No. 2 to contemporary tango-spiced and jazz-inspired works.
Because of the size of the ensemble, this performance will be held at the Fargo Theatre.

8th Street String Quartet
Smetana: String Quartet No. 1 in E Minor, "From My Life"
Dvorák: String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, "American"
FMSO Concermaster Benjamin Sung leads the 8th Street String Quartet in a program of intensely personal works. Czech composer Bedrich Smatana's semi-biographical "From My Life" quartet, described by him as "...four instruments speaking among themselves in something like a friendly circle," chronicles the course of his life, including impending deafness. The beautiful "American" string quartet exemplifies Dvorák's love of modal folk melodies, evocative of his beloved masterpiece, the "New World Symphony."

Cellists of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony
The Chamber Series finale celebrates one of the most beautiful instruments of the orchestra: the cello. "Rich as melted chocolate" is how one Washington Post reviewer described the sound of this gorgeous instrument.
In this all-cello program, you will be captivated by the rich, lush sounds of a cello choir as well as surprised by the lively and varied selection of works.
